Many-body Theory Calculations of Positron Binding to Negative Ions
نویسنده
چکیده
A many-body theory approach developed by the authors [Phys. Rev. A 70 032720 (2004)] is applied to positron bound states and annihilation rates in atomic systems. Within the formalism, full account of virtual positronium (Ps) formation is made by summing the electron-positron ladder diagram series, thus enabling the theory to include all important many-body correlation effects in the positron problem. Numerical calculations have been performed for positron bound states with the hydrogen and halogen negative ions, also known as Ps hydride and Ps halides. The Ps binding energies of 1.118, 2.718, 2.245, 1.873 and 1.393 eV and annihilation rates of 2.544, 2.482, 1.984, 1.913 and 1.809 ns–1, have been obtained for PsH, PsF, PsCl, PsBr and PsI, respectively. Calculation of positron binding to silver and gold atoms
Positron binding to silver and gold atoms was studied using a fully ab initio relativistic method, which combines the configuration interaction method with many-body perturbation theory. It was found that the silver atom forms a bound state with a positron with binding energy 123 (± 20%) meV, while the gold atom cannot bind a positron. Our calculations reveal the importance of the relativistic ...

A new relativistic method for calculation of positron binding to atoms is presented. The method combines a configuration interaction treatment of the valence electron and the positron with a many-body perturbation theory description of their interaction with the atomic core. We apply this method to positron binding by the copper atom and obtain the binding energy of 170 meV (±10%). To check the...

متن کاملSelective Binding of Cyclic Nanopeptide with Halides and Ion Pairs; a DFT-D3 Study
In this article, theoretical studies on the selective complexation of the halide ions (F¯, Cl¯ and Br¯) and ion pairs (Na+F¯, Na+Cl¯ and Na+Br¯) with the cyclic nano-hexapeptide (CP) composed of L-proline have been performed in the gas phase. In order to calculate the dispersion interaction energies of the CP and ions, DFT-D3 calculations at the M05-2X-D3/6-31G(d) level was employed. Based on t...
متن کاملA STUDY OF SMALL VACANCY CLUSTERS IN IRON USING MANY BODY POTENTIAL
Computer simulation techniques are employed to obtain binding energies of 2,3 and 4 vacancy clusters in a -iron using the Finnis Sinclair many body potential. The results are compared with earlier pair potential calculations. The many body potential is found to be quite successful in simulating vacancy clusters
